Cover Boy
The awesome librarian/writer/speaker Patrick Jones is on the cover of this month's School Library Journal. When the name "Jones" and the word "cover" tumbled around in my mind, the result was inevitable. So, with apologies to both Patrick and to the late Shel Silverstein, I present a modest and incomplete parody.
Well, we’re YA writers, pathetic blighters,
Typing our fingers away.
We write about bullies and we talk about angst,
We never get a holiday.
We list all kinds of ills that give teens chills,
But the chill we got today
Is the chill that’ll hit you
When you see Patrick’s picture
On the cover of the SLJ.
Patrick Jones....
Great to see him on the cover
Book writer and book lover
Cool to see his messy tresses,
On the cover – look! – it’s Patrick Jones.

Nicely done, and in my book you get bonus points for using the words "blighter" and "tresses."
